"It doesn't exist until you ship"

Written By Danny Nicolas

Jake Dahn recently wrote about something new he has started:

Starting earlier this week I quietly decided that I would start shipping at least one usable feature or product every single day (not sure about weekends), and I would really like to keep track of the things I ship. So for now I'm going to start shiplog posts to document things going forward; however once I get some spare time I'm going to just build a web app that lets me upload a screenshot, put in a link, and a description of whatever I shipped.

One of the great things about the internet is that you can have instant feedback, instant critique, instantly have the chance to improve due to the inherent point of the internet: to share. Sharing is one of the greatest things you can do. It helps you, it helps the people you share with, and it might end up helping the entire world.

The creative process follows very closely. Create something. Share it with people. Create something else. Share it with people. Repeat. Maybe go to some parties, but get back to creating. There is shipping to be done. It doesn't matter if it is done or not done, the sharing is an important part of the growing up process of whatever you are creating.

Imagine yourself as an inventor, and you're inventing a revolutionary way for interstellar space travel. At the littlest push forward, you are going to be filled with so much excitement that you will be compelled by the awesomeness of the event to share what you just did. Maybe it's just a lab partner. Maybe it's a full blow press conference. Someone has to know and share the excitement that you feel.

Create. Share. Improve. Create. Share. Improve.
