Nice Little Homestead
Written By Danny Nicolas
Priced at $44,900 cash, this is a beautiful homestead at a steal of a price.

It's a 37 Acre farm in northern maine, near the Canadian border in Van Buren. There is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house on the property, and separate garage and barn structures as well.

The farm also comes with an old garage and an old falling down barn. The garage needs new shingles since the roof is leaking, but this wouldn't take much money to fix. The roof on the old barn is failing, and you can see daylight through large portions of the roof. It could be fixed, but probably not worth the effort, and hence I am throwing in the old barn for free since it is in poor condition.
The house has four bedrooms (plus a room on the first floor that could be used as a bedroom or den), two bathrooms, and a full basement. There is a wood stove in the basement that is used to heat the house.
This farm is located on Parent Road, a public seasonal road that is not plowed in the winter, so this farm is best suited for seasonal living or for a very adventuresome individual or couple without children who want to rough it during the winter. The road is used as a snowmobile trail in the winter, so you could access the place by snowmobile if you desired for winter access. The house is wired for electricity, but no electric lines nearby, so an electric generator or alternative power system would be needed. The former owner had a windmill and battery pack system that he used to fire up the power, but he removed these before he lost the farm. A new well was drilled around 5 years ago.

It should be noted that this area of the world gets an extraordinary amount of snow and there is quite a bit of work to be done in repairing and winterizing the barn and garage, as well as completing the remodel of the house. Still, for the price listed, it would be a great start for someone looking for a quiet homestead in the back country.
